Things became promising with the release of the Annihilator album Schizo Deluxe, but, here we go again. Once again, the band changed things up, at this point becoming a much more bland groove metal. One could say this is the modern version of Annihilator's album Set The World On Fire, with two exceptions: Metal features at least one guest musician on each song of it's release, and Set The World On Fire is more metal then this release is.

Despite the title, so much of this release is mainstream it's insane. If you can make it past the extremely disapointing song "Clown Parade", brace yourself for the worst when "Couple Suicide" kicks in. Oh sure Angela Gossow of Arch Enemy appears but only to scream certain things during the chorus. This song is best categorized as alternative rock then Metal. If you haven't given up hope yet, well, you probably will at some point. "Downright Dominate" is one of the few songs on here that can be considered anything of what the album's title emplies, but really only during the chorus as well the material contributed by Alexi Laiho. Others include "Operation Annihilation" which sounds like a watered down version of "The Perfect Virus" off of Carnival Diablos, "Haunted" which is easily the heaviest song off here, and what could be an omitted song from Schizo Deluxe, "Kicked". For people who are new to Annihilator, the track "Chasing The High" would definitely be the best song off this release, but those who are will notice right away that much of the song is off a classic Annihilator song, but which one? Let's leave that up to you to figure out. Evil, huh?

What else is there to say? All the positive aspects have been mentioned already. Aside for a few good solos and guest spots, the album really does just fail as a metal album. Aside the last four tracks, there is really nothing here worth spending full price for the album. It's releases like this that make MP3 stores popular. Avoid this one unless you have to have every CD with Annihilator's name on it, or you actually like the new direction the band took on All For You. If you fall into neither of those categories, it'll at least be a nifty coaster for your table.
