One of the bands you wouldn't expect to pull any sort of maneuver to try to earn your hard earned money for, really, no reason at all would have to be this one. Skullage, which is pretty much just a waste of cash on a circular piece of plastic by Black Label Society is really one of the biggest insults to it's fans that have followed his career. But, for those who haven't, is it really such a big rip off?

Not too long before this best of compilation was released, Black Label Society saw the release of Kings Of Damnation, which had about the same amount of songs, but it only has three of the songs that Skullage does. The main draw is that this one is more of a Zakk Wylde only type of release, as it follows more then just the Black Label Society works he has done. The song "Machine Gun Man" was taken from the release Power & Glory by the band of the same name. The second track, "Dead As yesterday" is taken from the release Book Of Shadows from Zakk Wylde, his first solo full length album under his actual name. And then you have the "Slightly Amped" acoustic set that comprises the last four tracks of this release, but "The Blessed Hellride (Acoustic)" and "Stillbourn (Acoustic)" are both available on the prior Kings Of Damnation best of CD. The same goes for the track "Bleed For Me".

Aside that, Skullage presents a timeline of tracks, from the start of Zakk's solo career, up until his most recent release Shot To Hell. This is a nice collection of songs for those who enjoyed Black Label Society but have no real drive to collect their CDs, and it's nice to be able to observe how the music has progressed. But, what's in it for the real fans? Absolutely nothing, aside the "Instrumental Intro" and "Spoke In The Wheel" tracks, which they can easily purchase in any MP3 store cheaper then this release could ever be. A DVD version of this release exists, and is, perhaps, the most practical version of this release.

But, let's face it, this is the compilation that should have come out a while back. While Kings Of Damnation had some great track, this one really puts together much of what Black Label Society and Zakk Wylde really sound like. For fans, this CD is an absolute waste, but for those just getting into this band, this is definitely a great place to start, especially if you lack the funds to buy every release that this man has put out.
