Originally starting out as a Black Metal act, Bloodwritten has turned their focus on a more brutal sounding Thrash Metal style. Whore, the band's first EP, is a follow up to the band's second full-length EP Inequity Intensity Insanity, and is not be confused with the active North American band of the same name. Boasting two new compositions, a live track and a demo, is this EP worth the funds?

Whore is definately worth a glance. The two original studio recordings "Whore" and "Bullet Overdose" definately pack enough kick with them to keep you coming back for more. Bloodwritten create a very intense Thrash sound that is both menacing, violent, and highly addictive. However, the live track "Taste Insanity" is not as addictive. While you can still hear the instruments, the audio on this recording is obviously very raw, and seems to fade in and out of how washed out the music can be, as well as features what sounds like digital interference in the background from the recording device that is annoying enough to distract you away from the music on the track.

Had the recording quality of "Taste Insanity" matched the rest of the material on here, including the highly enjoyable instrumental demo track "Return to Tortuga Bay", this EP could be something a little far away from the norm. Even reversing the track order to put "Taste Insanity" after the "Return to Tortuga Bay" track would have helped. Another issue is that the band included the demo version of "Return to Tortuga Bay" on the demo in the first place. This track is actually pretty impressive for an instrumental and would have made a wonderful addition to the start of the EP as a freshly recorded studio track from the time spent recording "Whore" and "Bullet Overdose".

Aside some common sense blunders, the only drawback to the EP is the inclusion of the insanely low quality live recording of "Taste Insanity". If you simply bump it to the end of the EP, it works out, but having that omitted in the first place and replaced with something of a better quality, live or not, would have been a bigger help. Either way, the material that Bloodwritten presents on Whore is very well done and will leave you replaying the first two tracks for a good time to come.
