A rather pointless two track single with one solid song on it.-

Review
Really having nothing to do with their recently released album End Time, Brutal Truth return once more with a two song digital download that was made available not too long after the aforementioned release. Given that the previous effort really wasn't one of the band's most enjoyable efforts, it's enough to wonder if this Death Metal/Grindcore act has what it takes to at least create a strong two track download. Clocking in at just a little over three minutes, it's hard to justify spending upwards of two dollars (US currency) to purchase these two tracks digitally, especially since you could find them on the Decibel Flexi-Series for a little more money. Even for fans of the band, it seems a bit outrageous. So, how does it stack up?

Well, the audio is not bad, having that similar slightly raw feel that End Time has, but a lot better in comparison. The guitars sound heavy with a deep bass presence, the drums are loud and everything stands out well on the kit without any part being drowned out. The kicks have a nice click, the snares sound full and really solidify the music, and the cymbals are crisp and commanding. Vocally it's the traditional screaming that ends up being full of energy and pushed slightly further in the mix. "Walking Corpse 2112" kicks right in with some slightly complex sounding chords that quickly go into blistering blast beat territory while mixed with a strong underlying groove that shows off the band's Death Metal side well, all blended nicely in a way to make your head bang along. This is complicated by the more technical "You Should Know Better," which just sounds a lot more aggressive and chaotic. It's really not the most astounding cut that the band could have recorded, but again the transitions are good, and even the Death Metal input is tight, though not that inspiring.

If you're a fan of Brutal Truth and have a few bucks you won't miss, then Walking Corpse 2112 is something to look into. Sure, the tw songs take just a little more then three minutes to plow through, but both songs are still enjoying, though the title track greatly dwarfs "You Should Know Better." However, fans of the group's more technical or experimental elements will find more to say about the latter of the two songs, but still not much more. Whether these were just scrapped from the End Time sessions or not is unclear, though both that and this single release are through Relapse Records, so it makes you think that way. Either way, you're basically paying the same as dialing a 1-900 number for a little less time, so it all comes down to how you'd rather spend your money more then the actual quality of the release.
