Once again, Cattle Decapitation is back with another release comprised of hatred towards human kind. While this topic from the band is starting to get rather old in the midst of the whole "Going Green" situation facing the planet right now, one cannot help but admit that this new release, The Harvest Floor, is perhaps one of the best releases from the band in a good while.

The Harvest Floor is easily one of the heaviest releases by the band, and perhaps the most haunting. With a much higher production quality in comparison to some albums, the band seems to have advanced themselves a bit. The most obvious aspect of this, aside the sound quality in comparison to previous releases, would be the haunting pig-like squeels that will often echo through some of the songs in the background. You'll first notice it on the track "The Gardeners Of Eden", and it just creates this eerily haunting and depressing feel to the song. You hear it for "Ther Ripe Beneath The Rind" and Into The Public Bath" and a few others, but it doesn't cause much of an impact as it does on that very first song.

The only problem one might have with this album is the slower parts. Once in a while, the song will just slow down for a little bit. However, it is sometimes done as if it were an introduction to a guitar solo, like on the song "In Axetasy". And of course, you have some breakdowns too, but that's something else entirely. But, the good news is, when they appear on this release, they sound pretty good and flow with the actual music, kind of like the band is disguising this fact in a way. But, never the less, they are there.

If you enjoyed the band's prior lower quality releases, then this one might bother you a bit. The clarity on this one, however, makes for one hell of a release. The blistering and heavy sound of this band's blend of death metal and grindcore will definitely get some blood pumping through your vains, especially with cuts like "The Gardeners Of Eden", "Tooth Enamel & Concrete", and the blistering must hear track "Into The Public Bath". This is a definite release that any metal head should have in their collection.
