From The Cradle To Enslave is a six song EP released by Cradle Of Filth that two newly recorded tracks, two covers, and two different mixes of already released songs. This release, however, is perhaps one of their most well-known releases, as it really bridges the gap towards the musical style, and albums, that made them a household name in metal.
The only problem is that half of this EP is good, while the other half ranges from decent to absolute garbage. "From The Cradle To Enslave" and "Of Dark Blood And Fucking" are great tracks that breathe a rather haunting feel as you listen to them, mostly thanks to the keyboards in the title track, as well as the chorus and female background vocals in "Of Dark Blood And Fucking". "Pervert's Church (From The Cradle To Deprave) sounds similar to "Of Dark Blood And Fucking" except having a rather amateurish outro, both having lower sound quality in comparison to "From The Cradle To Enslave", and are really the more stand out songs on here, as "Death Comes Ripping" is a rather sub-par cover, as it's essentially just The Misfits with the signature shrieking over it, which just comes off absolutely lame. The "Sleepless" cover is actually really good and worth checking out, but some may find it a little boring after a few listens. And, of course, the final track "Funeral In Carpathia (Be Quick Or Be Dead Version)" is worth a listen as well, as this song is more of a black metal track then one that borders on straight forward gothic metal like the rest of the tracks, and really shows off the potential the band has to really sound evil.
The songs on this EP are catchy, with the exclusion of "Death Comes Ripping", and for a band that is supposed to seem somewhat evil, it doesn't fit in. But, either way, the newly recorded opening tracks are pretty damn good and the remixed tracks, well, just slightly altered. While From The Cradle To Enslave is a nice addition, aside the title track and "Of Dark Blood And Fucking" there is pretty much no need to buy this EP unless you are a collector.
