Review
When you hear that a band is unhappy with the final production of a release, you know you should avoid it at all costs. However, at a very small price tag, curiosity trumped common sense, and this EP happened into this collection. The warnings were, perhaps, best to have been heeded... So, God Forbid's EP Better Days features the studio version of "Better Days" off the band's then current album Gone Forever. This song is not that bad, but the production quality on this, as well as "Allegiance", which was originally made a bonus track for the Japanese version of that album, could have seriously been better, as the music just sounds muffled, leaving these great songs terribly faulted. The demo version of "Wicked" is an interesting listen, and is actually a little clearer then the previous two tracks as far as production quality goes. The song itself is more metalcore oriented, but is still a pretty good track. This song, "Allegiance" and "Mind Erased if you don't own the Japanese version for these two tracks, are really the only reasons to own this EP since these are not commercially available here. The biggest let down on this EP comes from the track "Reject The Sickness". Aside the poor audio quality on the three main tracks recorded for "Gone Forever", this one would have been a nice track for those who are unfamiliar with the band's past, as it came off their Reject The Sickness debut album. The problem is that, if you pay attention, you hear the song sort of fade out and in during the song! And the worst part is that the band was upset over that, and the fact that they wanted the demo version of this track on the EP instead. That would have been a nice touch to add that one for their die hard fans. But, given the audio problems this album faces, the songs on here are pretty good. If you aren't sick to death of hearing "Better Days" on the radio by now, there's another reason to buy this EP. Forget "Reject The Sickness" all together, as it isn't a fair representation of the band's previous works due to the sound quality, and if you can overlook the fact that a demo track sounds better then the three studio tracks recorded for a major label in the metal world, then this EP may do you some justice. If anything, it is a nice collector's piece to have from this band, just to have the material that was not released Stateside in the past.
