Review
Lordi, today's KISS, are enjoying the same type of fame at this point, except it's not that big here in States yet. But, just like the band that clearly inspired the presentation of live shows of the band, they have hit a patch of rough waters musically with the release of their latest album, Deadache. It is with this album that we see the band is starting to run out of ideas.

In comparison to the band's first few albums, the material found on Deadache is a pretty big let down. Some of the songs are here are only interesting during the chorus, which is how the first actual song on this release, "Girls Go Chopping" hits you, followed by that same feel on "Bite It Like A Bulldog", which is a little better. But then you get blindsided by the ballad track "Monsters Keep Me Company" with terrible dual harmonizing vocals. If the main vocal track were left alone it would have sounded great, but the additional background vocals destroy much of the song. Once again, the chorus is enjoyable.

After the rough start there's only a handful of songs that will really catch your ear drums. "Man Skin Boots", "The Ghosts Of The Heceta Head" and the heaviest track, "Raise Hell In Heaven" will have you headbanging along. "Evilyn" is one of the stand out tracks, "Evilyn", which is a very well performed ballad, unlike the filler track "Monsters Keep Me Company". And you can skip over "The Rebirth Of The Countess", as it is a spoken word track in French, and really has no need to be on this release other then to just fill up time. Once again, the last three tracks are as rocky as the first three, just minus a terrible ballad track, but with a guitar riff that is a complete rip off from The Phantom Of The Opera on the track "The Devil Hides Behind Her Smile".

Aside the production qualities and the aforementioned five catchy and well performed songs, this release has more of a filler feel then anything. Whether Deadache was more an experimental album comprised of slower, more contemporate music, isn't clear, the thing that is clear is that Lordi better wake up and go back to the sound that put their name on the map. With this release, MP3 on-line stores will be your best friends.
