Review
Fast. Heavy. War inducing. Total chaos. These are just a few words that could easily sum up the debut full-length release by the Hungarian Thrash act Morbid Carnage. Night Assassins is one of the most impressive debut albums you'll hear come out of the Metal world in recent years. The music that is here is phenomenally done and just comes right at you furious guitar riffs and matching drumming that ups the bar for the recent Thrash revival, and enough to make even the most veteran fan of the style stand up and take notice. Night Assassins has it all, and lays it all out on the table right from the start. "Warlust" basically sets the tone for the album, and at the same time is so intense it makes you want to march right out and start a war of your own. The intense guitar riffs are simply fantastic with equally as intense drumming. Even the guitar solos on here, while often very short, are orgasmic. But, even though the album prides it's self for having blistering tracks that leave you feeling like you just got into a boxing match with mankinds most sinister warlords, it's tracks like "Funeral Pyre" that really steal the spotlight from the album. "Funeral Pyre" is not like the many mosh-happy tracks on this release, and isn't the only one like it. This track is a more of a toned down track that has more substance to it with some more technical guitar riffs that earlier Thrash acts like Kreator would be happy with, all the while keeping the heaviness the band has already presented on the album. "Castle In Pain" is another track like "Funeral Pyre", which may take some time to grow on you as it's the slowest moving song on here and is rather different compared to the rest, having a more Groove influence in the guitar work then anything. One could even spot a heavy Pantera influence in the guitars during most of the main verses of the track. So if you're looking for an insane album that could very well skin you alive that also has more consistency then just fast paced riffs that will make you want to start a war in a mosh pit, Night Assassins is that album. This very impressive Thrash album is composed of everything that makes the style so enjoyable and hard hitting, and then some. So break out your finest leather and tattered blue jeans and run to your nearest Metal retailer, as this is one of 2010's must have Metal albums, and prepare to crawl once this album is through with you. |
