Review
Mystic Prophecy have unleashed their latest effort, Satanic Curses, which may very well mislead a lot of those devout Christians, leading them to think this is a Satan worshipping album. Rest assured, it is not, but know that He is more then likely rocking out down there to this release.

Satanic Curses is one hell of an album (pun intended). Continuing their lyrics regarding Hell that has been a concept throughout the band's career, the music on this release is sinfully delicious, and some of the catchiest that this band has released. Once you start this release, you'll notice that each song just seems to be better then the last, mostly by amping up the speed and technicality. "Dark Forces" has such a great technical and speed aspect, as well as great vocal work, especially during the chorus creating an almost commanding feel to it, making it one of the stand out tracks on the release. But that's just one of them, "Evil Of Destruction", while having an odd title, is perhaps the best off here. It's catchy as hell, very technical with amazing guitar riffs, especially the solo in both the start and end of the track.

While many of the songs are blistering and technical, there are some other tracks that focus moreso on the power metal aspect without a lot of speed and technicality. "Back from The Dark" and "Rock The Night" fall into this category, as well as a few others, and they are just as good as "Dark Forces" and "Evil Of Destruction". While "Back From The Dark" is a great song, but nothing absolutely spectacular in comparison to everything else on the release, "Rock The Night" is just a flat out metal worship song that will have your horns in the air, and lighters lit during the solo. This leads into the slower track "We Will Survive" which will continue the feel "Rock The Night" set, just with simpler chords, and some faster moments that appear throughout the song. While all the tracks on Satanic Curses have great vocals, both of these songs, as well as "Grave Of Thousand Lies" really compliment the abilities of the vocalist. Sadly, the cover of "Paranoid" doesn't really do this, only because of the echo added, but the music sounds really heavy and well done, but not quite enough to hold your attention past the first chorus.

With all of that being said, this is one hell of an amazing album. Satanic Curses is just a non-stop metal thrill ride with amazing speed and catchy songs. This version for the States features a bonus track as well, which just sounds like an omitted song that would have been included at the end of the disc. If you're a metal fan and you haven't heard of Mystic Prophecy yet, do yourself a favor and go buy this album now.
