Review
Diatribes is considered one of the worst Napalm Death albums to be recorded. Considering the dramatic change in their music from when they started to what they have at the time of this review, it's obvious that some of their work during the transition won't be up to par with the rest. Well, this one cannot be sugar coated, it's a bad album.

The music on this album is very groove oriented, blending some death metal and hardcore elements with death metal vocals. First of all, the music has it's moments, such as on the track "Ripe For The Breaking" and "My Own Worst Enemy". However, much of the album is just very bland and just comes across as typical, as if the band didn't even care. One thing that appears constantly with the music is that the music is fast and/or heavy, and then all of a sudden it stops to some sort of groovey, jazz-esque, low volume guitar riff that lasts five to ten seconds. "Cursed To Crawl" and "Cold Forgiveness" are perfect examples of this, as well as the fact that the vocalist just doesn't seem excited about making this record.

And speaking about the vocalist, this is what absolutely destroys this album. "Cursed To Crawl" is so bad it's funny, as the song has some decent music with the aforementioned guitar bridge that destroys the flow of the song, as well as rapping, and then the vocalist trying to sing along with the rapping. The song even has a rap beat prior to the bad gutteral singing with just the bass and drums! And if that's not bad enough, "Cold Forgiveness" follows suit with the singing gutteral, and a really lame chorus. The rest of the album varies as far as the vocals go, whether they sound as though the vocalist tried, or seemed to not care.

Really, the only saving grace for this album is that the music on some of the songs happens to be alright. "Dogma" is a pretty good track, as is "Corrosive Elements". But aside those two rather impressive tracks, this album is pretty much garbage. If you happen to find this CD and feel like taking a chance, don't. Harboring two of the lamest songs one could ever hear ("Cursed To Crawl" and "Cold Forgiveness"), as well as one ("Cursed To Crawl") which is possibly the worst songs one could ever hear, this one just really isn't worth adding to your collection unless it is given to you.
