Review
Napalm is a very suiting title for this release by the Death Metal and Grindcore outfit Rotten Sound. This EP features a live performance on a DVD [whcih was not made available for review], as well as six newly recorded studio songs consisting of three originals and three cover tracks. Musically, however, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between the two groups.

The three cover tracks on here are all songs by the well known Death Metal and Grindcore band Napalm Death. As stated, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between the originals, really, since the band's original three tracks sound so much like Napalm Death to begin with. The only difference between these two groups would actually be the production quality, as "The Kill", "Missing Link" and "Suffer The Children" seem to have a slightly different production quality to them then the first three tracks on the release.

While this EP is essentially just nothing but idol worship, which won't be faulted since the band practically made it obvious that's what it is by naming it Napalm, but Rotten Sound does a damn good job at it. The original track's main redeeming musical difference would be the vocal structure, which was more screaming from the start of the song to the end, whereas the cover tracks have more of a gutteral vocal approach. The only let down in the covers would be the slightly lower quality, and the band's choice of covering the eighteen second song "The Kill", which winds up just feeling like filler on this release.

If you're going at this one just for the music, then a retail purchase may not be for you, as this release clocks in just missing the nine minute mark. Hopefully the bonus DVD that is included in this release will be worth it to justify any form of hefty price tag, but the CD presented here alone, with how short it is and the quality, leaves this worth no more then a few bucks and best purchased at an on-line MP3 retailer. If you feel you cannot justify spending a lot of money on this release, then at least sample it to make up your mind, as the material here is pretty solid.
