Von Bastard
| Thank you for taking the time to talk a bit about the new album. How's everything going? I hope all is well for you. |
|
Von Bastard:
Thanks, Jason. Itīs going good. We are preparing for some gigs at the moment and we are checking out new guitarplayer for our live line-up.
And Iīm writing new stuff also. So far the work has been good and Iīm pretty sure weīre going to pull another full-lenght, maybe in next year or so. Weīll see...

| Cultus Nex was your first full-length, and first album through Hammer of Hate Records. Why didn't the band issue a full-length prior when you were signed to Blasphemous Underground? |
|
Von Bastard:
Well... We had a deal with them for a full-length too, but somehow the label decided to not fulfill their part of the written contract. Actually, our first full-length was supposed to be released instead of the s/t mLP but the label suggested that it would be wiser to put out an mLP before the full-length for some promotional reasons, Iīm not sure what the hell was that...
Anyway, the label is deceased now.

| You issued two EP's prior to Cultus Nex, one each year, and then the album followed another year later. Was the intent to issue a new recording roughly one year after the last, or was that all coincidence? |
|
Von Bastard:
No, we are never going to release anything just for the joy of releasing. I think the creativity is just florishing at the moment and if we got material that has something to say and need to be released we are not about to keep it in our drawers for years just becouse we released a record last year. I still got shitloads of material/songs that I may never let to be published, so itīs really not about that in any way.

| Has there been any discussion between that label, Hammer of Hate, and Sacrilegious Impalement to reissue those two EPs and/or your Demo in a compilation to make it available for fans? |
|
Von Bastard:
No, but if someone wantīs to work that out, take contact: sacrilegions@gmail.com. Maybe the Demo should be released as a 7"...

| Exalted Spectres is the latest album from Sacrilegious Impalement, and it just feels like a stronger release. Do you feel that the band had matured greatly since Cultus Nex? |
|
Von Bastard:
Thanks. Thatīs what Sacrilegious Impalement are about, we are always trying to push ourselves forward. We all have our daytime jobs etc. but this band is surely not a somekind of hobby for anyone of us.
We wenīt through some line-up changes and that raised our collective soul-level into other dimension. I was able to write different kind of songs that I would have been for the previous one. I always think ahead for example what kind of songs would suite the vocals and so on. At the moment our line-up is pretty strong and perilous, and Iīm sure this line-up is going to do some serious damage.
|
| -- |
| Do you think that the amount of time between Cultus Nex and Exalted Spectres helped the group as far as writing the material for the album, or do you think it may have done more harm then good? |
|
Von Bastard:
Cultus Nex was written well before it was recorded and it was supposed to be recorded and released in 2008, (or in 2007 if we wouldnīt have decided to do the s/t mLP first) but as you know by now what happened at that time, it was pushed ahead. Exalted Spectres was pulled out from completely different dimension.

| You have a more modern production sound to Exalted Spectres. Why exactly did you go this route instead of the new norm of having a raw analog production value to it? |
|
Von Bastard:
Are you saying that you canīt have a "modern production" with analog production or do you mean by raw analog production a buzzing distorted sounding production or what?
We donīt plug our guitars in to the computers and record our stuff in bedrooms if you are suggesting that. Itīs completely opposite, many of todays raw sounding records are been made in their own bedrooms plugging their guitars straight to the computers instead of having real amps & mics etc.
Some songs needs a different kind of production than others and our songs would propably sound shit with raw buzzing distorted sounds and the raw buzzing distorted songs would sound shit if they would have been made with a strong production just becouse the rawness of their riffs and music comes straight from the distorted sound.
We donīt go on one specific way when we record our songs, we follow how the songs defines themselves to us each time. Next songs could be made with a megadistortion on a digital way or on a fully clean sound with a fully analog way. We also donīt force the songs to some specific norm or form, they all have to have their natural way to born & exist.

| Do you think that this hurt the overall atmosphere of the album? Why or why not? |
|
Von Bastard:
Not in any level for us. We are happy how the album turned out, itīs pretty violent and strong sounding record. One thing I must point out is that Iīve checked out your review of the album and it seems that you got a bad lemon. Someone fucked up the promotion in the beginning and there were sent an unmastered copy of the album for reviews. Ofcourse this had major causes for the sound of the record. Luckily this happened for the reviews version only. I canīt believe how this is possible in the first place, but Iīm sorry about that. It got nothing to do with the band, though.

| Are you and the members of Sacrilegious Impalement happier with being more of an underground Black Metal act, or would you consider signing to a major label if that chance ever came around? Why or why not? |
|
Von Bastard:
I am not against it as long as we get what we are signed for. As long as we can do what ever we want to do we are good. I strongly think that music should not be limited just becouse youīre trying to be "true", it has nothing to do with it. We will always be true to ourselves and never change our way to do things for money or something, but we got nothing against it if an serious offer to get our music spreaded wider would occur. Still, the label has to be on the same what we are about.

| Does Sacrilegious Impalement do a lot of live shows, and if so has the band considered doing some tours through Sweden, or even outside of your country? |
|
Von Bastard:
We are a live band, definetly. Here in Finland for a ug-black metal band the max amount of gigs for year is somewhat 6-10, so itīs not so much. So far we have opened for Watain in London at their Lawless Darkness album release show and replaced Marduk as a headliner here in Finland at the FireBox Metal fest, but besides of that and some other black metal festival gigs & mini tours, nothing major. Weīd definetly consider going on a abroad tour if an offer would occur. Our current label doesnīt organize gigs or tours and we donīt have live promoter or agency at the moment so things arenīt that easy. All we got now is the band and the albums, but we are ready. Take contact.

| What is the band currently doing at this point? Are you concentrating more on writing new material already, or are you just trying to promote Exalted Spectres as much as possible right now? |
|
Von Bastard:
As I told earlier, we got some gigs ahead, we are also trying out our new guitarist and Iīm working on new songs. Weīll soon propably record the songs that were left out from Cultus Nex & Exalted Spectres with few other songs. I`m not sure if we are going to publish them ever, we are not about releasing every fucking song we ever write, they do have to have a meaning to exist. But who knows, weīll just see how they turn out first.
