Nous Reviendrons Immortels is a very well composed and highly enjoyable Black Metal release that doesn’t stray from the original dark and somewhat melancholic feel that is given from the “Intro” track. It may take a few moments for it to fade in, but does it’s job well at creating that said atmospher before heading right into the track “Deigneur De L’hiver”, a very heavy composition with some great guitar work that gives a slight melody to the Pagan approach. And, if “Intro” didn’t set the tone for you, the very somber instrumental track “Instrumentale” will make sure you realize exactly what this release is meant to do. It’s a bit odd to have that instrumental track so close to the album’s introduction, clearly acting a bridge between “Seigneur De L’hiver” and the two parter “Nimaeth Arnoediad”, but in the end it all does work out together since the first (“Intro”) is utilized to set the tone, whereas the other (“Instrumentale”) actually holds your attention and will not be skipped during later repeat spins of the album.
After those few tracks is where the album really shows off the band’s talent. Not only is the music on the following tracks heavy, as well as haunting and, especially during “En Route Vers La Bataille”, holding a rather gothic (as in time period) feel to the material that just sweeps the listener away. Another interesting part of all of this would be that the tracks bleed into one another, so much of the latter album, while cut up into seperate tracks, flow perfectly from one another into a rather magnificent opus, ending with “En Route Vers La Bataille” as “Royaume” is it’s own song. While “Royaume” and “Propheties” are both really good tracks in the vein of “Seigneur De L’hiver”, these should have been placed further up towards the start off the album, as they seem a little more tame once coming off the three track composition of “Nimaeth Arnoediad” and “En Route Vers La Bataille”, which will leave your heart yearning to quickly go back and listen to those powerful songs again. This is not at all to say that these tracks are bad, but are simply misplaced.
Aldaaron‘s debut full-length release is a very well composed album that shows only the pros that this band has in their ability to create very haunting, almost epic Pagan Black Metal tracks. While many bands are unable to pull off longer paced tracks without falling pray to repetition, this act keeps the material in their songs fresh and flowing naturally so that you will not be lost for one second. Nous Reviendrons Immortels is well worth looking into, and is a great album with songs that will not fail to entertain. The only gripe you will have when finished with it would be the aforementioned placing of tracks, and the lack of more tracks like “Nimaeth Arnoediad”, or even the flow of these tracks merging into one another. Either way, this is one release that you will simply not be able to put away for a good while, and will be stuck in your CD player for plenty of repeat spins without the fear that it will get old or repetative.
