When you sit down and look at the music here, Fuckin’ A is the Anal Cunt equivallent of Graveyard Classics II by Six Feet Under. The only difference here is Fuckin’ A isn’t going to completely obliterate an entire sub-genre. Of course, this doesn’t necessarily mean this is the greatest album under the sun either. Anal Cunt approaches this release well, writing plenty of songs on here that, musically, sound fantastic. The only song on here that really poses a problem musically is “Fuck You”, but that’s most due to the chorus that bares a strong resemblence to a Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers song “Runnng Down a Dream”. Of course, that’s where most of the obvious similarities to previous works end. Granted, this album is nothing but classic Hard Rock and Heavy Metal style compositions, but the music here is done well and quite enjoyable. But, as many know, this isn’t Anal Cunt‘s first attempt at bringing their style to Rock or Metal.
As expected from the band, their Grindcore side comes out in the form of disgusting and offensive lyrics, as well as the typical high pitched screaming that has adorned plenty of previous albums. This really could have made the album really interesting and entertaining, but, in the end, it often becomes a little weak and underdeveloped. After your time through the album, the high pitched vocals will start to get a little boring. There’s no real variation in them, just a simple, yet solid, effort and pitch. The only real differences are a few scattered gutteral attempts, and gang chants thrown around throughout the album, mostly in the chorus. The gang chants definitely work in favor of the album, though it’s clear that the volume of them are varied every once in a while.
Outside that, the lyrics are a little…weak. One thing this band has been known for, and pretty much became famous for in the first place, was their lyrics being over the top offensive. However, here, we don’t see that. While it’s not a bad thing to listen to an Anal Cunt release without racism, but there’s no taboo topics or other materials one would find on an episode of Law & Order: Criminal Intent or Special Victims Unit, it’s something that typically becomes a given with their material, and without it, it leaves a lot to be desired with this release. Instead, what we are given are lyrics about whores, having sex with them, STDs, and doing drugs, typical lyrics that would adorn the dirtiest Hard Rock album, but just take to a whole other level of filth. This is on practically every track, but there are just some songs that are far worse like on “All I Give a Fuck About is Sex”, “I’m Gonna Give You AIDS”, or perhaps the most hysterical off the album, not just for the lyrics, but the fact that they bring a female in to sing the song title with such excitement that you can’t help but burst out laughing, “Yay! It’s Pink!”. But, for as filthy as some of the lyrics can be, some are just flat out stupid, like on the overly simple songs “Hot Girls on the Road” and the epitome of what people consider the Rock lifestyle, “Hot Girls on the Road”.
Fuckin’ A really could have been something strong for Anal Cunt, regardless of their intentions, whether they were to make a serious album, or just a satire album. There’s no denying this is a raunchy Rock romp that the eighties would definitely fear, but it’s still an album that many will argue just doesn’t push the envelope enough. Fuckin’ A is an album that clearly will target a niche audience, but it still is a catchy enough album with enough of a unique twist that it will bring the listener back a few more times before the vocals start to wear thin, as well as make for a good album to pop in every once in a while. Other then that, it’s a good idea, but sadly just misses the delivery.
