The demo has a decent recording quality for the guitars and drums, but the main issue with this is that the bass is overmodulated and sounds atrocious when there’s no vocals or drumming accompanying it, like on “No Man, No Problem”, or just doesn’t really sound like it’s coming from a bass guitar, but rather was created through some techno music program, like on “Heartless Subscription”. The other issue is the vocal production quality and structure in the music. Not only do they sound hollow, but they also sound rather muffled, almost as if the band were performing the vocals under masks or something. It also doesn’t help that once in a while you can spot one of the two off tempo against the music, or just not even really trying, as well as being muffled one minute then much louder for the next line in the lyrics, and back to low for the rest of the song.
Other then that, the demo isn’t really anything spectacular. Some of the riffs on here are rather good, and the drumming is programmed well in unison with them. “World Damnation” is a good track and, though it starts off rocky and just cuts out at the end, “Dreams Into Nightmares” really stands out, while “No Man, No Problem” sounds rather bland and often generic. The final track, “Blood And Betrayal” is rather impressive and has a nice guitar solo to it as well, but, like “Dreams Into Nightmares” the song seems to cut off at the end instead of just fading out or anything of that sort, leaving the feeling that this seven plus minute song is actually incomplete.
Aside some issues with the production quality and the cutting short of the end of songs, Blood And Betrayal is actually a decent album. The only thing that really kills it would be the overmodulation of the bass and somewhat muffled vocals. Had more care gone into them like it did on the drum machine or the guitar, this demo would honestly have been something impressive. With a few stand out tracks, the demo is worth a look if you have the time, and if it is still available since (at the time this release was obtained) it was free to download.
