Live Fast, Die Old School definitely packs some great anger into their music, which greatly stems back to many of the classic heavier Punk acts of the day. Basically, this is just an album that sounds really pissed off, and features fourteen tracks that clearly depict that, especially with tracks holding names like “Fuck You” making that pretty obvious. Much of the album has a really heavy sound to it, though following much of the basic catchy Punk approach with well done two-step dums and often fast-paced guitars. The vocals are what stand out nicely on this release, however, as they stem from a deep shout that, unfortunately, can sound forced sometimes, and a higher pitched anry back of the throat shout, both of which simply add to the intensity of the music on this release.
One cannot deny the obvious old school influence in the music that is hinted at in the title. “Oi to Your Mutha!” captures the classic Punk sound perfectly while still retaining a strong, angered feel to it that will make you want to punch your fist through the nearest wall. The same can be said for “12 Hours” and the aforementioned “Fuck You”, except these two tracks don’t really have that old school feel, but rather a much heavier feel to them, with “12 Hours” showcasing the band’s more Hardcore tendencies over Punk and utilizing less two-step in the drumming in favor of just chaotic music in general. “All Too Real” makes for a quick romp as well, and for being just over a minute, it makes for a catchy song that will have your blood pumping until it’s very suiting end.
Of course, there’s even a few here that boast a slight Hard Rock feel to the music, but not all of them are that great unfortunately, such as “Mommy and Daddy”, which is actually a rather bland track that just doesn’t really feel like it goes anywhere. “Friends Forever” also makes for a fun, hard hitting sound, but the lower pitched vocals that are utilized, again, feel restrained, and in the long run with the song just simply don’t seem to the fit the music being fit at all. Had the pitch on that style been a little higher then how they are performed, then it would have been great, but sadly, it winds up just sounding rather silly. Other then that, there really aren’t too many issues with the album. That lower vocal style does present itself here and there on the album, but sometimes it sounds a little more full then how it’s presented on “Friends Forever” and works well with the music, but the other half of the time it just isn’t as full and doesn’t really sound good.
If you’re tired of hearing acts like Blink-182 or even Good Charlotte, then Antibodies would be right up your alley, especially with the band’s proclamation on the “Antibodies Are Here” that perfectly sums up the entire album. Whether you’re a huge fan of Punk or not, the band’s more Hardcore approach to the style really makes this stand out and bring a sharp edge to the music that makes it stand out and share it’s generally pissed off nature with the listener. Live Fast, Die Old School may have a few faults to it throughout the album, but it’s a great start for this group and shows a lot of potential that fans of any brand of old school Punk simply has to recognize.
