|Technical Death Metal
Release length: 44:04
Not really. While this isn’t the most satisfying death metal CD, technical or not, it does provide some degree of entertainment. While the production quality could be better, especially with the drums, the release is perhaps far too technical. Some of the songs, especially the longer tracks such as “The Eve Of Entities” and “The Unknown”, change up way too much, which causes a lack of flow within the songs. That, or, in the case of “Masque”, the guitars can’t seem to keep up with the drumming, making damn near the entire song sound like a clusterfuck.
That being said, are there any real good points to the songs? Well, the chorus to “The Eve Of The Entities” sounds pretty good, as do the shorter tracks “My Own” and “Chapters Of Youth”, which have technical aspects, but not to the point of overkill. Surprisingly, “Engulfed In Flames”, one of the longer songs of the album, has the same structural feel as “My Own”. The only issue here is the guitar solo, which basically comes out of nowhere, is distorted, and causes a sudden change in music style, and again when it ends, sounding almost as if it they just decided to do it when they finished recording and spliced it in. “The Valley Of Unrest” is also a nice track, adding a mellow moment to all this chaos (in both good and bad terms of course), as well as “Everlasting Sleep” (which is the outro) with a rather nice piano instrumental track.
“Blind To All That Exist” is really the only song on this release that stands out. While the other tracks have their moments, or are flat out mediocre and/or too technical, this song is just well crafted. Yes, the song does change a lot, but it usually isn’t suddenly, and everything synchs up perfectly with each other. It also has a slow part which that is a little relaxing and sounds rather impressive as it goes past what seems to be a slow, atmospheric guitar solo. It’s sad to hear that song after hearing everything else and realizing the band has the potential to write some impressive material, but not deliver aside one song.
The Eve Of The Entities is not all that great a release. The overly technical aspects and constant change ups make it hard to listen to due to the interruptions in the flow of the material. Had some of the longer songs been cut down by half, the album would be salvagable, but unfortunately they weren’t, and they just feel drawn out. With only a few decent songs, and only one that really stands out, this release can be passed by. Hopefully their next CD will be better.
