Testify For My Victims is a very lighter, more melodic album then their previous albums, taking a page from bands like The Haunted and Hatesphere for the music on this album. Instead, we’re given a more technical thrash album that isn’t aimed for their current fans, but anyone willing to listen to metal in general. The screaming vocals are restrained, the guitars are lacking with laughable solos, even the lyrical content on this album is atrocious and having practically nothing to do with anything the band has done in the past. The only good aspect is the drumming, which, at times, does pick up speed reminiscent of the prior works.
So, to enjoy this release at all, you need to look at this as a new band completely, and enter this trip with low expectations. Some of the tracks on here are alright. “Burning Eden” is just a good song that displays some technical work with the guitars, but nothing really jaw droppingly spectacular. And “Numb (The Dead)” has some good speed, but the chorus seems to be sung. “Questions Pertaining The Ownership Of My Mind” is perhaps the closest you’ll get to the Carnal Forge we know and love given how fast the song is, but it has a slower melodic chorus, and the screaming is rather laid back. But, aside from a few good songs, you’ll probably hit the skip button quite often with this release as early as the generic title track “Testify For My Victims”, if not for how bad the track is, then how disapointing it is. And then of course theres “Godsend God’s End” which is the polar opposite of Carnal Forge and is an absolutely joke until the end when it picks up from it’s extremely slow pace, and adds a decent guitar solo before the song’s end. And from this point, the album continues it’s generic brand of pure garbage.
If you’re going into this album expecting heaviness and brutality, then you’re going to be severely let down. Going in with lowered expectations, however, may just save you from dismissing every song on this release. With a hand full of songs that are even remotely entertaining (“Freedom By Mutilation” and “Numb (The Dead”) as well as a very small amount reminiscent of the good old days (“Questions Pertaining The Ownership Of My Mind”), there really isn’t anything all that spectacular. While much of the album does have some complex guitar chords, a vast majority of the album is just your standard modern thrash sound mixed with some melodic death aspects. Hopefully the band realizes their blunder and their next album will sound nothing like this abomination.
