|Melodic Death Metal, Metalcore, Thrash
The demo starts off alright with the track “Endzeit”, which just sounds like a run-of-the-mill In Flames inspired track with metalcore influences, and another female vocalist that performs and sounds very close to the singer of Otep. The next track brings something completely different, as “Affliction/Complaint/Disease” sounds decent about half way in, but prior to that sounds like one of the most stereotypical slow paced metalcore songs you could hear, with some tone deaf singing from the female vocalist through most of it. “Inocenti” is basically the same thing as “Affliction/Complaint/Disease”, except this time the singing is a little more on key, and the screaming gets annoying.
The only real positive aspects of this demo would be that sometimes there are some nice guitar riffs used during the songs, and the gutteral vocals are very well done. Other then that, the music is mid-tempo, bland, and very cliche, with exception to “Inocenti” which is also very drawn out. So that knocks out three of the four tracks on here, leaving the closer, “Good Old Joe’s Diary”, which shows some potential for the band by putting some effort into the song all around, and ending it as though they were the band Kittie.
So, if you’re feeling adventurous, grab the demo from their myspace page, as it is free. You’re not really missing anything at all here, and unless the band tries to distinguish themselves a little more by really focusing on their writing and making a release with a better production quality than this one, Dead Clown Inc. will probably go nowhere fast. That is, unless they aren’t picked up by a random metal label because they have a female vocalist with male gutteral vocals only appearing randomly through the songs. Given the state of female fronted metal bands lately, there’s a better chance of this happening then being signed due to an impressive demo.
