Release length: 52:02
While the first track, “Negative Eyes Control” is just a little rocky to kick start the album with, all is made up for with the following track “Just Before…” which will grab the listener by the throat and refuse to let go thanks to the pounding drumming and intense guitar work with atmosphere Symphonic overtones of the band’s more recent Black Metal endeavors. While the music itself is clearly more Thrash oriented and has some Melodic Death moments, such as the singing in the aforementioned “Just Before…” that actually doesn’t work out well with the song, but at least does with plenty of other materials. However, as you go through, it’s clear that the band has taken a liking to the material that Hypocrisy had been putting around around the era of the album The Arrival, which is obvious on “Rule of the Rope” through not only the music and science fiction-like keyboard outputs, but the slightly distorted harmonized screaming against louder clearer harmonized screaming. Sadly this is where the album greatly goes down hill.
So, XI Reasons To See presents two great songs before turning into the alien era of Hypocrisy and becomes repetative. Screaming verses, harmonized and catchy chorus with astral atmospheres, and at least one break or lead which features really low talking. There also appears to be some technical issues, such as during “When They Stand Still” around two minutes and six seconds in, where it sounds like the music skips for a split second. This appears earlier on too, and you’ll probably just shrug it off, but this one is just so obvious that it’ll urk you when you listen to it if you pay attention to the song. But, aside all that, the music on here is honestly not too bad and, on many levels, is highly enjoyable.
Aside the aforementioned “Just Before…”, there are some other tracks on here that are entertaining and just come off as solid Metal songs. “A Dead Silence” is another good track that has more of the band’s original sound to it, just falls prey to the Hypocrisy cloning through the keyboards before the album feels like it’s some kind of twisted manufacturing error and a whole other band’s album was spliced in on accident. After that, you have the track “When They Stand Still” which is a little different from everything else on the album, and “Your Demonic Defense” really takes the material in a heavier direction with some phenomenal fast paced double bass kicks, as well as finally breaks the mold that was used from “Rule of the Rope” until “Witness” to create a decent end to the album that’s as intense as this release started off with.
XI Reasons To See is a very lackluster album that just sounds like the band plagiarised The Arrival by Hypocrisy. If you have not heard that release, then you’re probably going to love this one. If so, you’ll be greatly let down. The starting tracks on this release are really where the band’s talent lies, showing off some real intensity and creativity through very intimidating music. While this release isn’t anything at all original, the music presented is still solid and clearly had some effort put into it. However, it’s not at all worth the full price at your local retailer. if it weren’t for the more original tracks that start, as well as end the album, this would not even be worth a passing glance.
