The album seems to be treading along the lines of Edguy‘s last album, Rocket Ride. However, the music seems to have more of an 80’s metal feel to it, blended with the sharpness of their signature sound. The band’s single, “Ministry Of Saints” is easily the heaviest track on the albume. while a good majority of the songs seem to have a more relaxed feel to them, concentrating on catchy hooks, as well as not quite over the top vocals like on previous releases. Take for exampler “Sex Fire Religion”, as well as “Nine Lives”. Both songs are rather laid back, simple, and catchy. “Nine Lives”, however, may grow old after a few spins.
The chorus to “The Pride Of Creation” will be stuck in your head, and “Dragonfly”, as well as “9-2-9” are both memorable songs that are done very well, are rather fast, and often have as beautiful a feel as “The Pride Of Creation” has. The only problem is that some of the solos on this release seem somewhat watered down, aside for “The Pride Of Creation”, “Dragonfly”, “9-2-9” and a few others, the solos are not all that impressive. But let’s not forget that Edguy does have a sense of humour. The bonus track on this release, “Aren’t You A Little Pervert Too?”, a dirty rock n’ roll track, is just that kind of song. The only problem is that, while other songs that have moments that will make you laugh, this one will simply make you giggle a few times before you start programming your CD player to skip it over.
Tinnitus Sanctus isn’t the most impressive Edguy album, but it’s still a worthy entry into the catalogue. While some of the slower songs sound rather generic (like the overly cliche song “Thorn Without A Rose”), some of the faster, up beat songs on here are simply fantastic. Hopefully we’ll see some more complexity from Edguy on future releases as we have seen in their past. If you’re one of those metal heads who is embracing the nostalgia that many bands are portraying in their music today, then you will absolutely eat this one up. For everyone else, the simplicity of the album may be a bit too much, but at least you’ll get some kick ass driving music out of the deal.
