These three tracks are simply astounding and really brought a lot of attention back towards Fear Factory, showcasing some really fierce guitar and drum work, as well as the complexity that they had lost around the time of Obsolete. “Slave Labor” and “Drones” are rather slow, being more groove metal oriented and the sound that the fans have become accustomed to, relying on melody and singing during the chorus. This works well, as it always has for the band, until it becomes a pattern. “Cyberwaste”, however, is just an in your face heavy track with some of the long forgotten death metal structures that have been missing for what seems like ages now.
These three songs are a sign that Fear Factory is returning to the sound that we all have come to embrace and love. Archetype will hopefully blow the past two releases out of the water, and if these tracks are any indication of the rest of the material on it, this will be one hell of a ride.
