Degradation. Manipulation. Mobilization isn’t meant to be your average Goregrind or traditional Death/Grindcore outing, but it definitely surpasses both thanks to the rougher, bass heavy audio quality. The pulsing bass and blunt distortions are coupled with a crisp drum presence and indecipherable guttural approach that easily treads into some well executed pig squeals without completely abusing or relying on them, unlike some bands in the style today. There’s also plenty of Hardcore grooves to be found scattered about to make the skull crushing material even more memorable, all starting with “Paranoia – The Art of Survival”. The chaotic guitar work and drumming makes for a truly frantic assault until the last twenty seconds when the song shifts into an addicting groove that gets your blood pumping with a desire to start up a pit where you stand. “Totalitarian Tolerance”, however, will throw you into a psychotic rage in comparison. The punishing guitar work rumbles loudly in your skull, backed with some of the best vocals this EP has to offer, adding more intensity to the mix.
A lot of that goes for the largely abrasive “Projecting Justice” and it’s chaotic orchestrations in the chords, as well as the timing. However, it’s just a sample compared to the highly complex “Managed Hostility”. With riffs that seem to fly all over the place at a blistering speed, the deep distortions only grow louder and more commanding as you progress deeper into the madness, leaving you unsure on the direction the next few seconds might take you other than a punishing beatdown. Even when the band seems to head into the more typical Death Metal and Grindcore terrain, such as on “Independence Under Gentle Percentage” and “Destination – Chaos”, the music itself is still really catchy, relying largely on that deeper sound to push what complexities exist to the forefront.
Lately it seems like the ever growing pool of Death Metal and Grindcore bands is just starting to dry up due to the amount of groups that seem to worship Goregrind legends or innovators like Napalm Death, Hrust Kostilyo manage to stand out with a voice of their own. Blistering speed and complex passages littered with soul crushing distortions and tuning make their second outing one of the most impressive you’ll come across for the style in recent years. Degradation. Manipulation. Mobilization is like the bastard offspring from Nasum and Origin, hammering you with one blunt force of destruction after another without remorse. If you get the chance to check out this Russian four-piece of grinding brutality, you absolutely must.
