Back in 2007, Hull released their debut EP Viking Funeral. They also tracked the song “Swamp Goat” that year, but never released it. The band has finally made it available in all its bass rich glory through their label Iron Orchestra Works. The lost song is full of slower riffs vary in heaviness, mixing clean chanting with rougher vocal harmonizations. That pace eventually gives way to catchy Rock oriented riffs about half way through that find the guitars pushing a more epic tone about three-and-a-half minutes in, though losing some of its edge to some mainstream hooks. It works, but ends up more a guilty pleasure than anything. Legend of the Swampgoat isn’t the most impressive of Sludge performances, but there’s enough build to a grand presence towards the end that makes the just over five minute song an experience worth having.
