The most obvious improvement with We Hate You All!!! is the audio quality. Is the Shit came off a rather barren and empty, leaving the thud of the bass kicks and somewhat louder twang of the bass guitar to really have to step up and try to fill the gaps as much as possible. However, this isn’t the case here. The music found on We Hate You All!!! is far more vibrant, not to mention more violent thanks to the enthusiasm captured in the studios.
Aside from a better audio quality, We Hate You All!!! also finds a great deal of growth within the performances themselves. Much of their previous material wasn’t all that unique, often playing into the standard Melodic Death Metal/Metalcore style comfortably with very little standing out. Here, however, there’s additional genre’s pulled into the fray that are mixed in perfectly to where you may find yourself confused as to if it’s one of the two original styles, a Groove Metal performance, or if that groove-heavy segment might actually be more a Hardcore foundation instead. This is one of the first questions you ask yourself as “Conscious Orchectomy” kicks in. Opening riffs that sound like a Mathcore introduction give way to Hardcore aggression and shouting that comes off like sandpaper before heading back into the raspier approach or deeper growls with ominous hooks creeping in. For the most part, it’s an energetic cut that rarely ever takes a breath from hammering away at your skull, leaving the reprieve up to the very end with a slower breakdown common to the Deathcore genre that is saved ly with how dismal it sounds while keeping with the song’s logical conclusion.
“Aliens & Shit” is an interesting track compared to the rest. At first the Hardcore Punk influences make for a generally catchy track, and some of the Metalcore hooks and additional layered vocals that act like background gang chants in fewer numbers do offer a little more than just your typical rebellious overtone. However, by the half way mark, things change to a straight forward Brutal Death Metal track, complete with pig squeals, deeper chugging, and decent slam at the end. But then you have “WTF” earlier on, acting as a precursor to this one in a way. The speed is a bit restricted, but it works for the ominous Swedish Death Metal style atmosphere the hooks and solid drumming end up weaving throughout.
Sadly, Hummano haven’t grown out of composing staple stereotypical cuts. “You Suck” is your traditional As I Lay Dying or Darkest Hour song. There’s little unique about the performance other than a creepy guitar solo, but the track itself is well executed, has plenty of infectious hooks, and a breakdown towards the end that manages to hit harder than most of the others scattered about. A good deal of this can also be said for “Bitch-slap”, though the breakdown here isn’t anywhere near as good.
“Omphaloseptic” carries more of a groove than most tracks, but again walks that line between it and straight-up Hardcore. It’s a catchy track overall, though definitely feels restrained. Many passages build to an explosion of enthusiasm that just never comes, leaving on a really empty breakdown to cap off the decent track. “Open Your Mouth and Swallow” is on par, but has some tighter guitar work that works with the drums to get your head bobbing along a little more. And then there’s “I Blew My Dog and I Liked It”, which is just a quick burst of Grindcore that spoofs Katy Perry‘s “I Kissed a Girl And I Liked It”. It’s humorous at first, but that’s about it.
But when you boil it all down, We Hate You All!!! is an excellent mixed bag of infectious, high energy cuts with a forgiveable amount of cannon fodder thrown in. There isn’t much that dedicated Metal fans can’t associate with other acts, and while that can be a bit detrimental in a select few songs, the real allure here is how well the band easily blurs the lines between them, even at its most obvious. There’s been a great deal of growth since Hummano‘s previous outing and, when coupled with this far better production and mastering, you can’t help but get swept up in what the band brings to the table, not to mention have the urge to catch the energy found in these studio recordings on stage. There is plenty of potential still to be discovered though, and, given time, Hummano will easily take the world by storm. But, until then, We Hate You All!!! is a fantastic place to start getting familiar with them.
