Morfin
Last week I tore into the brand new Morfin album Inoculation, and I had a few questions to ask these guys. I shot some questions over to the folks at Clawhammer PR to relay to the band. The other day I got the answers back from Chucho Romero. Here’s what he had to say!

So how did Morfin end up signing with FDA Rekotz? Did you seek the label out, or did they reach out of you?

Chucho:
Well we knew that our buddies from skeletal remains were a signed by FDA REKOTZ and it was going pretty well with them. So I emailed FDA REKOTZ to check us out and from there it went on. And a big thanks to FDA REKOTZ for throwing us on the label!

Before Inoculation, Morfin had a demo tape called Crystal Darkness. Is the tape completely out of print, or can people still pick it up somehow? If so, how can someone like myself go about getting a copy?

Chucho:
Well we only made 50 copies in tape format and they went out pretty quick! The only you would be able to get your hands on that demo is in cd format. We are planning on making more or even re-releasing it. In tape format.

Was there any talk about including the Crystal Darkness demo tracks on Inoculation, or perhaps to reissue them through FDA Rekotz?

Chucho:
There was but since it took us awhile to put out the album, we Just decided to put new songs in the album, we are planning on putting out the demo or even putting them in the second album. We haven’t decided yet. But they will be out again soon!

After listening to Inoculation, I’m curious why you decided to cover “Leprosy” by Death considering your entire album could be considered a well done Death fan-fic. Also, is there a specific reason you chose that song from the band’s discography?

Chucho:
Well we always played that song live when we closed our set and people always complimented us on it and they really loved it. And since we are really influenced by that album, it was a must for us to put it on the album to pay tribute to Death!

Are there any other cover songs in the band’s repertoire that may grace a Morfin album, or perhaps one you would like to perform live or record that you haven’t got down yet?

Chucho:
Well we really enjoyed playing songs from slayer, disincarnate, bolt thrower, gorguts. We would really like to put out a Disincarnate song or cancer song. Maybe like Sea of Tears or Confine of Shadows by Disincarnate. also Tasteless Incest or Back From The Dead or Death Shall Rise from Cancer. It would be awesome!

Inoculation sounds like an album from the eightiest, but remastered. Why did you go the rougher audio quality route instead of presenting a modern spin on your material?

Chucho:
Well we went with that sound because we really like it. We don’t really like the modern stuff. It just doesn’t seem real to us. We felt comfortable with that sound and it is bonecrushing.

So, aside Death, what other bands or musicians have influenced the songs on Inoculation? As I safe to assume there’s a hint of Autopsy in there as well?

Chucho:
Well bands that influenced us are Gorguts, Disincarnate, Cancer, Massacre, Autopsy, Bolt Thrower, Possessed and many more death metal bands. They’re all badass we love the style.

What’s the next move for Morfin? Will you guys be heading out on tour, shoot a music video, anything like that? If so, can you drop some details?

Chucho:
Well after we release the cd we plan on playing a lot of shows and hopefully we tour! If the opportunity comes up, we will take it. It would be cool if we make a music video. There is actually a place where we can probably shoot a music video. We probably might even do one! We’ll just have to wait and see! And we are in the process of recording our second album!

Is there anything else you would like to mention that I didn’t get to touch on?

Chucho:
We would like to thank our fans, FDA REKOTZ, and Apochs.net for setting this interview up!
