Soulfly: Savages

Yesterday legendary SOULFLY frontman and guitarist Max Cavalera, went into the studio with producer John Gray (SOULFLY Primitive and Dark Ages, MINISTRY) to write and record the music for ESPN’s World Cup 2014 coverage. Being of Brazilian roots, and with the love of soccer flowing through his veins, this is a dream come true for Max. Zyon Cavalera (drummer SOULFLY, LODY KONG) will be slamming on the drums, and adding some Brazilian flavored percussion as well.

Ever since the band’s gold-certified debut in 1998, SOULFLY have become deadlier and more dangerous with each critically acclaimed successive release and Savages is no exception. The record was produced by the world-renowned Terry Date (PANTERA, DEFTONES, SOUNDGARDEN), and will also be the first to feature Max Cavalera’s 21-year-old son Zyon on drums. The artwork was created by artist Paul Stottler, who is best known for SACRED REICH’s legendary Surf Nicaragua cover. Savages was released as a limited edition digipak CD, 2LP vinyl and digital download on October 1 (North America) and will be released October 4 (Europe) via Nuclear Blast. Guest vocal appearances on Savages include bass player Tony Campos, Max Cavalera’s other son Igor Cavalera (LODY KONG), CLUTCH’s Neil Fallon, NAPALM DEATH’s Mitch Harris and Jamie Hanks of I DECLARE WAR.

As if there was a more metal way to come into the world, Zyon’s heartbeat in utero served as the intro to SEPULTURA’s 1993 classic RIAA-gold-certified record
Chaos A.D. Max would depart SEPULTURA soon after the release of Roots in 1996.
