“I Am in Hell” comes through like a stylish mixture of old-school Death Metal with Black Metal undertones. The groove heavy track often sounds like the necessary bridge Six Feet Under didn’t take when leaping from Death Metal to Death ‘n Roll, right down to the insanely deep gutturals and random rasps in the vocals. The entire performance feels a bit restrained, as if stuck in the mud and passively trying to grain some traction. Thankfully this plays to the well maintained pacing, taking its time moving forward with infectious Black Metal leads in the chorus and bridges, all the while weaving a twisted and haunting aura to the main verses that fans of Deceased will immediately grab hold of.
The main draw back is that the song never really gets the explosion it all feels like it’s leading to. Of course, this isn’t really a bad thing as “I Am in Hell” is as infectious as it is accessible. If modern Entombed (or as they go by today Entombed A.D.) and Satyricon were to have a sickly love child, Vorzug would definitely be the hellspawn of that twisting one night stand.
