Thy Art is Murder
Earlier this month I had the chance to shoot some questions over to the guys of Thy Art is Murder before they hit the road. The answers came back from CJ McMahon, the groups vocalist. Check out what he had to say this time around!

Hey, CJ! Happy post-Halloween at this point. You do anything special this year, or have you just been preparing for your upcoming tour?

CJ:
Yeah, just been getting ready for tour, I don’t really care about Halloween.

Is this tour your first headliner outing? If so, how does it feel? If not, what was, and is the sensation of being the headliner any different than it was back then?

CJ:
It’s our first headline tour in America, but yeah we headline Australia and Europe regularly, it’s awesome to be coming back so soon and headline in America. I think it should be a great indicator as to how we are doing in America.

Is there anything in particular you guys do to get ready before an extensive outing like this one?

CJ:
Not really, we just practice a lot and make sure the business side and logistics side of things are working well and that’s it.

You guys are hitting the road with I Declare War, Fit for an Autopsy, The Last Ten Seconds of Life and Kublai Khan. How did this package come about?

CJ:
We decided on all the bands with the help of our booking company The Agency Group, so we are stoked to be taking our friends bands on the road with.

Have you toured with any of these bands before? If any you haven’t, are you looking forward to hitting the road with them?

CJ:
We have not toured with any of the bands but we have played shows with The last ten Seconds Of Life and our good friends in Fit For An Autopsy, but yeah stoked as fuck to hang and watch all bands of the package.

You guys issued a video for “The Purest Strain of Hate.” Is this a good representation of Thy Art is Murder on the road? Also, are there any other shenanigans you guys do to kill time between sets?

CJ:
Yeah pretty much, the clip covered near everything we do on the road, but yeah there are some things that we don’t want on a video clip or people seeing, that’s a secret.

I take it you guys enjoy beer thanks to the video ;). How much beer or hard liquor would you say Thy Art is Murder downs per show, and what is your favorite brands to have nearby?

CJ:
Some nights not so much then other nights it’s alot, usually beer and Jack Daniels or Jamison.

Every time I blink a band is putting out a new beer. Have you guys thought about a Thy Art is Murder brand beer or ale or some kind?

CJ:
Not really, but I’m sure the boys in the band that drink beer would like to do it.

Will Thy Art is Murder be doing any special during these dates, maybe joining another of the bands on stage during a song or two, or perhaps recording it for a potential DVD or live album?

CJ:
Don’t know, I will probably sing with Fit For An Autopsy as I do guest vocals on their new album.

Hate was released a little more than a year ago at this point. Have you guys come up with any new material since then, and if so, will fans get a taste of it on stage with this tour?

CJ:
We have started writing the new album, but we will not be playing any new songs till it’s ready.

How about the set list in general? Mind giving us a run down of the songs you intend to play this time around?

CJ:
Nope, I like to keep the set list a secret.

One final question about the tour. I noticed a couple repeat dates in some states, but there’s five in a row in California. Why is the tour set up like this?

CJ:
I don’t know, we don’t book the shows, our booker does these things, maybe because Cali is big and has alot of people and it’s awesome!
